What is Bak-4 prism
Most people is thinking BAK-4 is a name of material , in fact, BAK-4 is type of the glass.Standing for Baritleichkron which is a Barium Crown glass, BaK-4 prisms are in most cases considered superior to BK-7 prisms as they have a higher refractive index (1.569) and so has a lower critical angle. The result is that that less peripheral light is "lost" through the non-total internal reflection.
It has been pointed out to me that many profiteer's optical devices labeled as having BAK4 prism glass are not actually the same as the Schott BaK-4 ones. The profiteer's
BAK4 is not Barium Crown, but rather a phosphate crown and has a refractive index of 1.5525 and a dispersion of -0.0452 (Schott: -0.0523) and also has a higher permitted bubble count than Schott BaK-4 glass.
